Derbyshire Carers DCFC Fundraising Event

Carers, volunteers and staff from the leading Carers charity in Derbyshire, flocked to the iPro Stadium last Saturday (23rd) to demonstrate their support for local family Carers.

Registered charity – Derbyshire Carers Association (DCA) – fielded a team of over 50 determined volunteers, all kitted-out in DCA’s match-day purple T-shirts, eager to shake their collection buckets and raise much needed funds for the charity, whose offices are on Babington Lane in the City centre.

This was the first major fund-raising event of the year for DCA’s team of volunteers, who admitted to being a little nervous outside the stadium before kick-off, but soon settled down as many of the County players kindly posed for photographs and applauded their hard work, saying the volunteers looked ‘cool’ in their purple strip and were all impressed at what a great job they were doing for local people.

The eager dogged determination of the volunteers raised nearly £2,000, which will all go to support Carers across Derbyshire, helping fund events such as a Carers Ball in October, therapy days and Carer training sessions.

Narinder Sharma, CEO of Derbyshire Carers said: ‘On behalf of the 130, 000 Carers in Derbyshire, our sincere thanks to Derby County FC for all their help and support in allowing us to raise awareness of local Carers and their issues.

Huge thanks must go to the County players, staff and not least – the fabulous supporters – who all gave so generously to such a worthwhile cause, it is greatly appreciated and we hope to do it all again soon!’

Did the volunteer’s eager team spirit, goodwill and determination, give good karma to the match? It certainly proved a great result for everyone – as County scored five times to visitors Fulhams’ FC single goal.

‘In these austere times, dedicated team work is the key to success’, added Narinder Sharma, ‘with support from organisations such as Derby County FC, our charity can continue and improve its vital services to local communities.’
