Derbyshire Carers Association Chief to highlight carers roles on national TV tomorrow

Narinder Sharma, Derbyshire Carers Association’s CEO, will appear on the national BBC One breakfast show tomorrow morning to highlight the roles of elderly carers.

The discussion is scheduled on BBC One between 7am and 9am. Narinder will be discussing Carers of older people and the services available to them. He will be joined by a Derbyshire carer, a 94 year old gentleman who cares for his 85 year old wife.

By providing unpaid care for someone they know who is ill, frail or disabled, Carers save the economy an incredible £119 billion per year – that’s the same cost as running the NHS. Despite this – and the fact that 3 in 5 people will be Carers at some point – Carers often face a lack of recognition in many areas of their lives.

The timing for the broadcast couldn’t be better. Derbyshire Carers Association and partners are among the services and centres hosting more than 12,000 events and activities UK-wide during June’s Carers Week to raise awareness of carers and the support available.
