Carers Rights Day 2016

Carers’ Rights Day is a national event held every year to ensure that carers know their rights regarding benefit entitlements and learn about the practical support available to help them in their caring role.

To mark this special event, Derbyshire Carers’ Association invited carers and Cllr Martin Repton those working in Health and Social Care across the city to take part in a learning and development event at Specsavers, Intu Derby on 25th November. This ‘drop-by’ even offered participants the opportunity to find out more about DCA, what support we can offer and how legal changes to the Care Act may affect their rights as carers.

It is estimated that millions of carers do not claim benefits and the support to which they are entitled. This event has been designed to equip them with sufficient knowledge, information and resources to aid their everyday life as a carer. Whether you are a carer or whether you work in a health and social care setting, we hope that this occasion proved equally useful.

There are some pieces of legislation which can be beneficial for all carers to know. These are:

• Your right to an assessment
• Your right to request flexible working
• Your right to not be discriminated against
