South Derbyshire’s Carers are Crazy for the Ukulele

On the October 22nd carers from the Swadlincote Carers Support Group were treated to an evening of singing, story telling and ukulele playing by Gabriela La Foley otherwise known as the ‘Ukulele Lady.’

Carers learned some of the history behind this unique and fun instrument and were even able to join in with singing. Songs included classics such as Daisy singing about her bicycle made for two and an alternative version of George Formby’s ‘When I’m cleaning windows!’

After the event DCA Support Worker Lisa Barker commented, “What a treat it was to have a rousing sing-a-long, especially welcome when some carers were able to enjoy their first night out in ages. Gabriella was very entertaining telling stories about her life and playing a variety of ukuleles from all over the world.

This musical event was made possible by a kind donation given to support carers in the South Derbyshire area. On the night over £100 was also raised which will now be used for another event in the New Year(TBC)as all agreed this one was over far too soon!
