Derbyshire Carers Association Supports New Breathe Easy Group


MP Maggie Throup MP and Derbyshire Carers join over 50 people to discuss coping with a lung condition.

Breathe Easy provide support and information for people with lung diseases, their families and carers in Ilkeston. Breathe Easy Ilkeston is part of the The British Lung Foundation (BLF) network and there 230 groups across the country. This new group is designed to support wellbeing and self-management of respiratory illness, sharing experiences with others with the opportunity to learn from experts.

Local MP Maggie Throup showed her support, by attending and sharing with the group her own personal experiences of dealing with a lung condition with her mother who suffered from Pulmonary Fibrosis.

The respiratory information event, held on the 6th June, attracted over 50 people with lung conditions and their carers. As part of the event all were able to come and see a Respiratory Consultant and talk about their issues. A team from the British Lung Foundation was also on hand to discuss the benefits of Breathe Easy.

Attendees met over a cup of tea with professionals from the respiratory teams and found out more about local support services with stalls from the Derbyshire Carers Association, local exercise instructors and Breathe Easy Nottingham West.

Following on from this event Breathe Easy Ilkeston will meet 1.30pm on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at:

Anyone affected by any lung condition is welcome, including family members, friends and carers.

Breathe Easy Ilkeston will be added to the network of Breathe Easy Groups across Nottinghamshire joining successful groups already up and running in Hucknall, Bulwell, Edwalton, Eastwood, Ilkeston, Mansfield and Ollerton.
