Sun Shines on Carers’ Canal Trip

On a sunny summers day on 11th August more than 20 carers were treated to some much needed time-out with a day messing about on the water as DCA arranged a special canal trip – a little respite in the delightful surroundings of Chesterfield’s Tapton Lock.

The Chesterfield Canal is an oasis of calm, a beautiful waterway and its surrounding countryside is within minutes of the hustle and bustle of schools, motorways, supermarkets in the vibrant town of Chesterfield. The canal is a heritage jewel, built more than 200 years ago and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Carers watched out for the blue flash of a kingfisher, the sight of a perch and the elusive and beautiful water vole.

As well as the gentle, relaxing cruise on the Madeline – one of the Trust’s canal boats – carers also enjoyed a trip to Tapton Lock Visitor Centre and Nona’s coffee shop at the Hollingwood Hub.

A great day was had by all and ‘enjoyed so much’.
