Somercotes Medical Centres’ ‘Carers Clinics’ Nominated for British Medical Journal Award

Somercotes Medical Centre in Alfreton, in partnership with Derbyshire Carers Association (DCA) received a rare ‘high commendation’ award at last weekends national BMJ Awards in London.

The Practice and DCA were placed in the Primary Care Team of the Year category for the collaborative ‘Carers Clinics’ service. The award recognises excellent leadership, promotion, facilitation and management of new initiatives.

The Clinics are a new opportunity for carers to meet health professionals in suitable location and discuss their caring needs and carry out a carers’ assessment. The response from this initiative amongst health staff and patients has been fantastic and there is new momentum to develop the initiative further afield.

The BMJ Awards are the UKs premier medical awards programme recognising and celebrating the inspirational work done by doctors and their teams. They highlight engagement with people who use the services on offer and those who go the extra mile to meet patient expectations and demand.

This celebration of success shines a light on such initiatives and the hard work developing them.

“Derbyshire Carers Association have been absolutely vital in helping us to create and set up this amazing service for patients. Thank you to all of the DCA team.” – Dr. Kaysia Heafield.

Congratulations to all at Somercotes Medical Centre!
