Innovative Carers Pledge Shortlisted for Prestigious National Award

The Derbyshire Carers Pledge was recently put forward for a HSJ award by South Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group (SDCCG). Derbyshire Carers Association CEO and carers are to attended an event at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on the 18th November to celebrate carers.

The HSJ Awards are a chance to come together as a community, celebrate achievements and how people have transformed patient care. The Health Service Journal Awards, created in 1981, are the largest celebration of excellence in UK healthcare, highlighting the most innovative and successful organisations, people and projects in the sector. The HSJ received over 1,600 applications from 600 services and organisations.

2014 saw the launch of the now successful Carers Pledge in Derbyshire – an exciting new initiative to encourage organisation and individuals in local communities to work together to reach out to carers.

It’s aim is to enable the many partners who have signed up to reach out to the thousands of carers in Derbyshire who maybe missing out on services that can help them with their caring role. Partners such as GP surgeries and hospitals are encouraged to pledge to identify carers, to provide support and campaign to improve their lives.

Partners pledge to use networks and expertise to identify and support carers – working with all parts of our communities to reach carers wherever they are: in workplaces, in GP surgeries, on-line, through pharmacies and in places like supermarkets and sports centres.
