Carers Celebrate in Style at the ‘Crooked Spire’

Over 300 Derbyshire Carers and their families attended seasonal celebrations on the 8th December at the world famous ‘Crooked Spire’.

This Derbyshire Carers Association special event offered carers a golden opportunity to meet other carers and DCA staff from across the county, old friends and new, in an informal and relaxed setting.

Led by the Revd. Patrick Coleman, local dignitaries, including Cllr Alwyn Bridge, Ripley Town Mayor, Elizabeth Fothergill, High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Mr. William Tucker, HM Lord-Lieutenant were there to join in, meet carers and hear their experiences. During the event there were readings, Highfields School’s (Matlock) Junior and senior choirs singing carols, a carer’s presentation and poems celebrating carers and the positive impact they make.

Revd Patrick Coleman commented on the celebration saying;‘Derbyshire Carers provide invaluable help and support for these hidden heroes of society. We at the Crooked Spire are glad to work with them each year to share the joy of this season, and to bring a smile to so many faces!’

Pupils attended and performed from Highfields, Matlock Junior and Senior School Choirs and also Sharley Park Community Primary School.

Attendees were then treated to refreshments and mince pies and the chance to mingle in a seasonal setting.

DCA Chief, Narinder Sharma said; “It’s great to see the development of this now annual event. We are all in awe of the work Carers do in supporting their loved ones, and proud that we have such an active and supportive Carers Association here in Derbyshire. It was a very joyous occasion and gets better year by year.”
